2017 Hugo Awards Finalists (with links to free fiction) - A Breath of Fresh Air!

The 2017 Hugo Awards ballot is out! Voting will close July 15 this year. The online voting system is not yet live. But that’s okay – there’s plenty to read!

Looks like the Sad Puppies have moved on this year. The Rabids are still trolling, and very thoughtfully nominated some artists who had no qualifying work in 2016 so that we can say with complete confidence and clarity that their voters are trolling with a slate they aren’t personally familiar with, as though there were ever any doubt. Fortunately, they only nominated one or two things per category in order to better game the new nominating system, so the effect on the overall ballot is minimal. I’ve marked the Rabid Puppy noms in the list below.

I haven’t seen mention of a Voter Packet yet. Whether we get one or not, as usual, I’m compiling a list of links to the nominated works that are available online for free, to aid us in getting on with our reading! The links to free works will be included below. If you know of others, please let me know and I’ll add them!

For everything else, I'm adding in lots of links to make it easier to get started reading/listening/watching. Happy reading!

ETA (4/23): Best Fan Artist updated to reflect today’s change: Rabid Puppy nominee AlexGarner disqualified at his own request. Huge respect and kudos to Alex Garner for coming forward to the Hugo committee to inform them he had no qualifying fan art last year. His vacated spot on the finalist list has gone to Steve Stiles.
