2018 Hugo Awards: Ready to Nominate? (Quick! Read All The Things!!)

Tell me about the good SFF you read/watched in 2017!

The nomination period for this year’s Hugo Awards is probably opening soon, so I’m getting my list ready. There’s still time to read just a few more things, so please let me know what else you’ve loved! Works must have been first published or aired in 2017 to be eligible for nomination for the 2018 Hugo Awards. I’m still reading some shorter fiction right now, mostly in magazines and a couple of anthologies, so I may be adding to my list in those categories.

This is what I have on my “might nominate” list so far:

Best Novel:
·         Artemis, by Andy Weir
·         Provenance, by Ann Leckie
·         Seven Surrenders, by Ada Palmer

Best Novella:

Best Short Story:
·         "The Good God," by Hugh Howey, in his collection Machine Learning: New and Collected Stories
·         "Machine Learning," by Hugh Howey, in his collection Machine Learning: New and Collected Stories

Best Dramatic Presentation (Long Form):
·        The Good Place, Season 1
·         Spider-Man: Homecoming
·         Star Wars: The Last Jedi
·         Wonder Woman

Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form):*

And here is my “to-read/watch” list, which I will never finish before the nominations period closes:
·         Binti: Home, by Nnedi Okorafor
·         The Will to Battle, by Ada Palmer
·         Meddling Kids, by Edgar Cantero
·         New York 2140, by Kim Stanley Robinson (I started reading it in September, and it was good, but was too soon after Hurricane Harvey!)
·         Ancestral Night, by Elizabeth Bear
·         The Stone in the Skull, by Elizabeth Bear
·         Pilot X, by Tom Merritt
·         Wilders, by Brenda Cooper
·         Sacred Band, by Joseph D. Carriker
·         Spoonbenders, by Daryl Gregory
·         Red Sister, by Mark Lawrence
·         Orphan Black: Season 5
·         War for the Planet of the Apes
·         A Ghost Story
·         The Handmaid's Tale: Season 1
·         'Alice Grove' web comic

Some anthologies I am trying to check out before I run out of time:

*YES – I know I can only nominate 5 per category. No idea how I’m going to narrow this one down! OMG SO MUCH STAR TREK!!

I’ll come back to update with my final nomination list near the deadline. Meanwhile…

Tell me about the new SFF you're loving! I want to read it! Also, please tell me what you love about it, if you can without spoilers!
